Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Composite Bonding

How can we help you?

Dr. Ochoco believes that informed patients make decisions that support better oral health. These frequently asked questions reflect the concerns he hears most often: about treatment options, what to expect, and how he approaches clinical decisions. If you don't find what you're looking for here, call Schuster and Ochoco Dental at (310) 453-5300. A conversation is always the best place to start.

Composite Bonding

Both bonding and veneers improve the appearance of teeth, but they suit different concerns and different patients. Here's how Dr. Aaron Ochoco thinks through the decision.

Bonding vs. Porcelain Veneers

Composite bonding is usually the right choice when:

  • The concern involves one or two teeth rather than a full smile correction
  • The change you're looking for is modest; a chip repaired, a gap closed, an edge evened out
  • Preserving tooth structure is a priority, and you prefer a reversible option
  • You want to address a specific concern without committing to a more involved procedure
  • Previous bonding needs refreshing or replacement

We recommend porcelain veneers when:

  • Multiple teeth need correction in shape, color, or proportion
  • The desired improvement is more significant than bonding can reliably achieve
  • Discoloration is internal or hasn't responded to whitening
  • Bonding has been tried previously, and the results haven't held long-term
  • You want a more durable solution with greater control over the final aesthetic

A Few Differences to Consider

Bonding typically completes in one appointment and requires little to no tooth preparation. Veneers involve at least two appointments, lab fabrication, and some removal of enamel, which makes the process irreversible. Bonding costs less and is easier to replace. Veneers offer more precision and tend to last longer.
